Stay-cation
In May, Daniel and a few days off of work after spring semester ended and before summer semester began. We decided to take a little vacation. After some plans fell through we decided to do a stay-cation which ended up being a lot of fun. We started our stay-cation with a bbq at the good old Discovery Park in Pleasant Grove with some family members. Canyon had a blast playing on the play ground. We also went out to eat and relaxed instead of cleaning the house. Daniel and I got to go on date which was great! One day we visited Hogle Zoo. Oakley loved the train ride.

And his favorite animal were these things..not even sure what they're called but we had to drag him away from them.
Our favorite thing we did on our stay-cation...CANOEING. We spent the day at Tibble Fork canoeing with the kids. Poor Oakley wore an old little girl life vest. The ruffle made it so he couldn't really move ...at all. Good thing we thought of bringing treats aboard because that keep him content. Here he is trying to look at the water.
Canyon loved "rowing" with his paddle. He mostly just splashed me because I was the lucky one that sat behind him.

It was still a little cold up the canyon but turned out to be a really nice day.
We also visited Dan Crandall's plaque up Tibble Fork. This is Daniel's uncle (whom he is named after) that was killed fighting a forest fire in that area.
All and all we had a great stay-cation.
And in case anyone was wondering, white chocolate covered pretzels and babies-not a good combination. We learned this the hard way.
It was still a little cold up the canyon but turned out to be a really nice day.
Easter 2011
Easter wouldn't be the same without dying Easter eggs with the boys..

Canyon getting up at 7:00 am because he is so excited and going through his entire Easter basket while everyone is still sound asleep..

The Easter Bunny being mad because Canyon didn't wait for mom and dad...
Oakley not being impressed with his Easter basket,
Easter egg hunts,
And trying to get a good pictures of both of the boys in their Easter clothes.

Another successfully Easter :)

Canyon at 3
Oh little Canyon, where do I begin? Canyon is a rambunctious three year old. He loves so many things-daddy, Oakley, playing outside, riding his bike, watching movies, "reading" books and playing with toys-especially monster trucks and cars (just to name a few). Canyon is a very loving little boy. He adores his cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandmas and grandpas...and of course Aspen. He likes to do tricks for example: jumping off things and spinning around and doing somersaults and karate kicks. Also if there is puddle of water outside-Canyon will jump in it. No matter what. Canyon also tries to wrestle with Oakley. Poor little Oakley has learned to be tough. He will be standing up and Canyon will walk up behind him, grab him around the waist, and pull him backwards onto himself. Luckily Oakley thinks it hilarious. They are boys through and through.
Canyon also says a few funny things that he thinks are real words.
Rhinosaur=rhinoceros
restauranK=restaurant
Harry Potomas=Harry Potter (not sure where he learned this one?)
Donald Ducks=McDonalds
Canyon hates wearing shoes. Wherever we go-he takes his shoes off. Often times I will see him walking to singing time from Nursery in his socks. Even at restaurants, his shoes will be kicked off and jammed under the table.
He also does not throw silent fits anymore like he did when he was younger :( They don't happen too often but when they do it is quite the sight. Whoever said terrible two's really must have meant terrible three's!
Canyon will do anything possible not to go to bed. We put him in bed and he needs a drink of water or needs to go potty. Lately he's been pretending to fall off of his bed. But my all time favorite "Mom! There's a dinosaur eating my blanket!"
Another favorite thing of Canyon's....cookies. He is getting way to smart for his own good. He gets a stool, gets the cookies out of cupboard, puts them down on the floor so Oakley can eat them too, and the two of them will down as many cookies as fast as possible before I even know what is happening. He has also done this with Cheetos and various other treats.
He makes us laugh and reminds us what is really important in life. He is such a fun little three year old.

Canyon had a birthday..shout hooray!
February is birthday month in our house so we do a lot of celebrating! Canyon turned 3 on February 27th. His birthday was on a Sunday this year so we pretty much celebrated it all weekend. He is pretty spoiled! To start off the celebration Canyon really wanted to go bowling. He invited his cousin Lydia. They had so much fun!

He is really trying hard to concentrate...

Daniel and I started off bowling, but half way through the kids were having so much fun that they just took turns bowling every other time.
Oakley had fun too :)
On Saturday morning we took Canyon to one of his favorite places for breakfast...Krispy Kreme.

The boys loved watching the donuts being made.
That night we went and celebrated with Grandma Nickels at the Mayan. We took Canyon once before Oakley was born and he has talked about going to "the restaurant where the people jump in the water" ever since. We got a great seat right by the water. Canyon didn't do much eating.
They sang Happy Birthday to him with a sparkler candle. He was amazed.

Canyon loved his birthday dinner!!
So it finally the day finally came when it was Canyon's real birthday. He opened his presents.

And made Toy Story alien cupcakes for his birthday cake.
This was Canyon's favorite present. His Lightening McQueen bike. He loves riding and has caught on really quick. He is a little bit of a dare devil which makes me nervous!
Then it was off to church. Canyon got a visit from his mom in nursery with cupcakes and they sang Happy Birthday to him.
That night we went to Grandma and Grandpa Furr's for dinner and a birthday party. Canyon loved all his presents.

His birthday cupcakes.
But still the celebrating was not over! The next week Canyon had another birthday party at Grandma Nickels house with his aunts, uncles, and cousins.

We had more presents, more cake, and more fun. See what I mean by spoiled!! :) Happy Birthday Canyon.

Oakley at One
Oakley is such a funny baby! Here are a few things about Oakley at one year old:
He is the most stubborn baby I have ever seen. He has such a strong personality and knows exactly what he wants...which makes him a little difficult at times :) He does not like help doing anything. He likes to figure things out in his own time frame, and when he does, there is no looking back. For example-Oakley would not crawl on his hands and knees for the life of him. We tried and tried helping him and he would not have it!!! He would literally cry or throw a big fit when we tried to teach him. One day he decided he could do it and has been a crawling machine ever since. Example 2-I tried for weeks and weeks to get Oakley to drink out of a sippy cup. He would not do it! It became a battle of the stubborns between Oakley and I. He refused to drink all day and I would finally cave because I didn't want him to dehydrate. Then one day Oakley decided it fine to drink from a sippy cup and was totally done with his bottles. And that was that.

Oakley is saying a few words. His says mama (but only when he is looking for me. If I am holding him and tell him to say mama, he laughs. Such a stinker). He says dada, uh-oh, oh wow!, no no (when I am trying to snuggle him), wee, and his favorite THAT!!! He points to everything he wants and yells THAT!!! I guess its better than whining or grunting :)
Here he is riding Charlie the Caterpillar and this is an instance when he says wee! wee! over and over again. He is such a little dare devil...riding with no hands!

Oakley LOVES throwing things. He throws everything. His binky, his toys, Canyon's toys, tv remotes, basically anything he can get his hands on. The funniest thing his throws...his sippy cup. When he is finished getting a drink does he set it down nicely? Of course not, he throws it! EVERY TIME! We are currently working on putting cups down nicely, but of course he will do it when he feels like he is ready.
Oakley also loves throwing things into the bathtub. I find some of the strangest things in there thanks to little Oakley!
Here he is caught red handed throwing stuff into the bath tub. This time it was a fruit snack wrapper, a sponge, and one of Canyon's socks. (The curly mohawk is usually not Oakley's hair-do. This is what happens when he goes to bed with wet hair).
Oakley's favorite food: lime green Popsicles. He shares one every night with his daddy. So cute!
Another favorite past time of Oakley's...putting toys into my shoes. It never fails. Every time I put on my shoes, there is a toy of some sort. I am sure excited to be able to wear sandals again :)
Oakley also LOVES balls! I think we have a future sports player on our hands! He also loves animals, baby bear (pictured above), his blanket, and his brother.
Little Oakley we love you so much! Happy Birthday!

It's Fun to be ONE!!!
On February 5, 2011, little Oakley turned one year old!! This past year went by so fast. I wish time would slow down!!!! We started out Oakley's birthday with a trip to Toys R US for his birthday crown and balloon. He couldn't get enough of his balloon :) Then it was back home for lunch and naps for the day.

Then Lindsey and I went to work making decorations for Oakley's party. We held it at our church so we could fit both sides of the family in one place at one time.
The desserts...

the decorations..
the guests....
the presents.....

the birthday cake....

and the bath made an unforgettable party.
Overall Oakley's first birthday was a huge success. We had a lot of family and friends that came to celebrate with little Oakley. We had a great time playing bingo, playing basketball, and just having fun being with our cute little one year old! Thank you everyone for making Oakley Bear's first birthday so special.
